How To Remove The Most Stubborn Stains Off A Sports Uniform

Posted on: 17 August 2015

Uniforms are a great way to create a unified look for a sports team. Whether the sport is basketball, baseball, or soccer, every sports team has their own signature uniform that helps define them as a team. Unfortunately, those uniforms get dirty quickly, and often need to be washed clean for a game the next day. Not only do sports uniforms get dirty, but they often end up with stains that can be tough to get out. If you've ever wondered how to get rid of those grass, dirt, and blood stains, follow this guide to help you clean the most stubborn stains off a sports uniform.

Grass

With so many sports being played outside, it's no wonder why many sports uniforms end up with grass stains. Grass stains are difficult to get out because grass contains a green dye called chlorophyll, so when a sports uniform gets a grass stain, you need to get rid of the chlorophyll that has been transferred to the uniform. Grass stains can be removed using a simple solution of white sugar and water; you'll mix in enough water until the solution becomes a paste. Using a soft brush, rub the paste into the stain for about a minute, and then put the uniform in the wash without wiping the paste off.

Dirt

One of the first steps you should take to remove a dirt stain is to brush off any extra dry dirt; make sure you brush in the direction of the fabric so the stain doesn't set even more. Once all the excess dirt is brushed off, create a solution of white vinegar and salt, and pour it directly on the stain. If the stain doesn't go away at first, continue pouring the solution on the stain until it disappears. Once the stain is gone, wash the uniform as normal. These steps can also be taken to remove stains from red clay.

Blood

Blood can be one of the most difficult stains to remove, but hydrogen peroxide can do the trick. Pour hydrogen peroxide right over the stain and then cover the stain with salt; the salt will help absorb the color of the blood. Leave the solution and the salt on the stain for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes has passed, brush the salt off and wash the uniform as you would regularly.

Avoiding stains on a sports uniform is virtually impossible, but removing the stains promptly with these simple remedies can ensure your sports uniform always looks like new.
